nac Calling JOBBERS/SCALPERS

"He has tried to invest long term, but his experience has been "very bad. This jobber's business is safer compared to long-term investing, which does not always give good returns. Look at HLL, it's not given any returns in the last one or two years. Had I invested in it, I would have lost. I've not taken delivery of any share for four years. After losing money, I decided that this is the only way to make money in the market."

Good article. But I do not agree with him regarding LONG TERM investment.
Just case of HLL is taken, but there are innumerable stocks (Educomp, Jain
irrigation,Bhushan steel,............a big list) which gained smartly.

Agreed & seconded.

FINALLY!!!!!

Read this whole thread, yes! all 49 pages of it, in one sitting!! (well accept for a lunch break :) )

Well, what do I say, I found it so riveting that I couldn't stop :) although I must say that the initial pages were much more interesting when Nac was documenting his journey here.

Regardless, I have learned a lot from this thread alone, and plan to be a regular @ TJ. :)

Now something about me:

I am from Mumbai, I am 30 years old, I am actually into acting :D well, not yet got any big assignment (otherwise I would not be here :), please don't take this statement otherwise, what I mean is my first love is acting)

So why am I here? Well, one of my actor friends earns his expenses from trading and I learne a bit from him, have been reading a lot and watching a lot of online videos to learn day-trading. My only goal is to earn about 10-20000 a month so that I can meet my daily expenses.

I am aware that it might be few months (@ best) when I approach anywhere near that target.

Right now am just learning so I am trading with a very small amount 10,000 (I don't know why people refrain from posting trading figures in rupees ;-) ) so that I can know if trading and I are compatible!!

Right now cannot think of anything else that I can write to introduce myself, if anyone wants to know anything else, do ask me :)

Now my few cents to this thread!! (I've noted down the points while reading this thread from the beginning, so if you see me responding to something posted months back, please excuse me :))

# I saw a lot of people expressing Huge SHOCK when Nac reported that he lost 27% of his capital in one day...

Well, I must admit, that I lost 31% in one day. Now let me explain how, that was only 4th day of my trading (I've traded only7 so far, I know, I know, eyebrows must be beginning to raise up), the previous day I had booked profit of about 1000 rupees (needless to say I was using margin obviously, with 10,000 rupees in my account, my first days turnover (buy+sell) was 250000, second days was 140000 and third days was 80000) and so the fateful day I also committed the mistake of letting my loss run in hope of turning the looser into a winner, to add to my blunder I also averaged my position.

Net result EOD I was down 3100 incl. charges.

Since then I have learnt my lesson,

-Have stopped using margin,
-Started using stoploss (I was using mental stoploss!! and that day I kept giving leeway to the market as it kept going down.

Now my single trade size is no more than Rs 2000.

#I read in one of the posts that Nac was saying he had to get his terminal from RKG deactivated to save on fees, I did not get it, I am using IIFL TT and I am not charged for using the terminal. Do they charge for using the terminal?

Also I have noted that almost everyone is using broker firms which are not that known (at least to me) do they give lower brokerage rates?? is IIFL expensive in brokerage?? (for my kind of turn over, for now at least)

# Also I find the idea of jobbing interesting and would like to try it, what I want to know how do you guys put stop-loss so quick, coz AFAIK in TT you have to first put the buy order and the click F2 (for sell) and then put a stop loss order, and then you will have to put your normal (profit) sell order, this will take too much time

So please shed some light on this..

#Some one had mentioned Susan Boyle (I know the post is probably MONTHS old :), but still...) in context of people who are not talented, and then shock everyone...well if you saw the Susan Boyle performance, its not that she was not talented, its just that she was very plain looking and did not fit the stereotype of a pop-singer, so no one (incl. judges) expected her to win, but when she opened her mouth to sing, everyone was blown away...

So she did not change and then become talented (like Robbie in the story mentioned in the thread)..

#Last, but not the least, thanks Aadiya for uploading those books

I also would like to ask Nac if I can hijack your thread and post my progress in it like he was doing earlier :)

BTW Nac what is the status of your trading account??

Is it? I don't think that naming our broker is against forum rules. Ok, fine the information you have given is enough.

About brokerage, you said that two years back you had to pay more i.e. Rs. 50/- per crore and now you are paying Rs. 300/- per crore. Then it should be higher than before.(or its wrongly entered Rs. 50/- instead of Rs. 500/-).

So you are into commodity jobbing??? Got any experience in capital market?(jobbing) and the above brokerage is for commodity not for cash market, am i right?

You are paying 30-40 grand a month as brokerage. ooooohhhhh I can't even able to think about it. Its tooooo much for me. I can't really afford that.

spatch,

:)

http://www.traderji.com/options/37607-100-profit-6-months.html

Follow the link and read it, it will be much better than this thread. It was bit shorter than this thread but I took more than 1 sitting to read it completely.

Loss of 27%:

It's not a good show for a day trader, losing 1/4th of his capital in one trading session when there was nothing weird in the market. It was actually one of my worst day. Unfortuanately, I lost more than that later in my trading journey. :(

TT charges:

TT is free while ODIN of RKG is Rs. 299/- monthly per segment. Don't bother about terminal charges. And about brokerage, for your daily volume brokerage of 3-5 paise is good.

Jobbing:

Just scroll up and follow the link given by raz... you will get to know about jobbing. Anuragmunjal was a jobber, he could guide better than many...
There will be no time for jobber to put stop loss order for every trade. Since he don't hold for more than a minute or two, its highly not possible. He will get out with limit order as and when he feels so.

Yeah, you can post your progress here, I have no problem.... after all its a public forum.

Finally!

It's been a long time since I posted my trading activity/status. I quit posting my progress/status just after I lost my whole capital (initial). Because of too much criticism put me stay away from posting. I was super confidence even when I was losing but when I lost 100% of my initial capital that confidence started to fade. As tnsn suggested I kept my mouth shut. I just saw a green month for the first time since Apr 2010.

I am down 142%.

hi Spatch

I have mentioned a few brokers here of whom you may not have heard of (although most of them are 'big'). since trading is my full time job, apart frm competetive brokerage, there are other factors too... I cannot make any compromises on order execution, speed etc. It is imperitive for me to have a one to one with the broker, so that in case of any problem arising, it can be rectified immidiately. this would not be possible with religare, indiabulls etc. simply becos u will have a relationship manager..... u tell him ur problem.. he asks his senior.. who asks his boss and then they revert back to u in the same manner. just to give u an example, normally brokers auto square-off ur trades between 3.10 - 3.20 . while jobbing, I have sold short after 3.29 and squared before 3.30 or vice versa on numerous occasions. there are various other such reasons due to which I prefer working with brokers with whom I have a direct relationship. since u are starting afresh, these things would not matter much to you, hence u can start off with any broker of ur choice, but once ur turnover starts increasing, u may someday want to work with a broker who knows u and understands ur style of trading.
regarding ur second query, if u are jobbing fulltime, u donot have the time to put in SL.either u book a profit or a loss. hence if u have bought a stock in the anticipation of it going up, and it does not, within ur timeframe (which can be as small as a few seconds) u sell it back there n then. while jobbing SL means booking a loss , not the actual putting of SL in the mkt.

hope this helps

hi Nac

U are right on the dot there.
good to hear that u had a green month.....
the problem with jobbing today is that there is not much public participation. I did some jobbing in Acc and Gail (after a long while) on the last month's expiry day and I could sense that it was jobber against jobber, system trading against system . even at round numbers, where an year or two back u would find buy or sell bids of thousands of shares, there were hardly any buyers or sellers.
hence would suggest that u trade on a slightly higher time frame.

regards

Anu,

Yeah, I am trading with higher time frame now. After reading few posts of yours and read few articles on automated/program trading, I am asking myself "Should I do jobbing with this liquidity and charges?"

After reading article (link by raz), I felt that.... Luckily, I wasn't there as a jobber when they were paying huge amount as statutory levies. I might have lost more than this.

With very good volume and BEP in just one tick away, jobbing/scalping in NYSE/NASDAQ will be much better than NSE/BSE.

nac ,

As per u'r experience which broker would u suggest for jobbing ?
My Internet/Machine/Backup all is almost set .I do swing but at times surely do scalping , jobbing , small timeframe trades. But need good brokerage with less downtime.

I have traded in three platforms. Religare's RACE Pro, IIFL's TT Adv, RKG's ODIN. In my experience none of 'em seems to be good for jobbing. If you insist to choose one, I would choose ODIN.

I should nod (atleast now) to anu's words. It's better to do jobbing @ broker's place.
