Backtesting and trading camarilla pivots

Trading cams is a mechanical setup... one doesnt even need charts to trade this...

the L5 and H5 levels are just projections as to expected profit line. The main zone remains as H3 & H4 and L3 & L4. The others are there merely as profit booking levels and not to initiate trades.

Back test the system and find out if you can trade it... Those who trade this setup have all backtested it themselves and find it relatively stress free....
Sir,I had put the High/Low/Close of today's Nifty Futures - 20/4/2010 and got the following Values to Trade for tommorrow.
We may be going Long or Short our first Target gives us Profit of 4 Points and the Second Target gives Us 9 Points where as Stoploss in both the conditions will be 13 Points.
From members of this forum I have learnt that any System or Statergy which gives 70% Success Ratio is Excellent, so if we get 70% Success Ratio, our position after 10 Trades will be Max.7 Successful Trades X 9 = 63 Points - 20 Points for Brokrage, STT, Service Tax etc. = Net gain of Maximum 43 Points and on the other hand 3 Failure Trades X 13 = 39 Points + 8 Points for Brokrage, STT, Service Tax etc. = 47 Points. I am unable to understand why any one will follow this Sysytem. I would be Obliged in case you explain how to Earn from this System.

Karan if you read my earlier posts in this forum you will realize few important things w.r.t Camarilla

a> Tight range - camarilla does not work, chances of hitting stop loss
b> You mend your stop loss as per your comfort
c> Tight range using scalping/jobbing of 15-20 points to get money
d> Trailing stop loss is very very important in Camarilla.
e> You will not win with Camarilla everyday but for me success to failure ratio was 85:15

In my next post I will explain few examples.

Nifty Fut 29 Apr 2010 - Camarilla 21.4.2010

Camarilla Levels

H3 - 5240
L3 - 5214

Camarilla Triggers and targets

  • short when price moves down from above 5240 for targets upto 5214 and below depending on breakdown upto L5 and possible even lower
  • Long when price moves up from below 5214 or L3 for possible targets like H3 and beyond depending on breakout till H5 and higher

How would I trade?
Look into the image.
I will wait 1.10pm where I get a chance to go short. Generally I play for 20 points with my stop placed at 20 points and trailing SL 10 points. But I am very fast and nimble footed in moving my trailing SL. So now my position is
short at 5240
once it goes to 5220 my TSL is placed at 5230, it moves each 10 points there after untill i decide to close the position
My SL is placed at 5260. This should be placed based on your preference, risk appetite experience and nimbleness, internet speed and capability of terminal and broker backend.

Now let us observe the trade
The market moves sideways and i do not place trailing SL. Neither it goes to 5460 so SL is not hit. Finally i decide to close the position after 3.10pm, because I prefer to square off my positions by 3.15pm. So I square off at 3.12pm at 5236 giving me 4 points and just sufficient profit to pay my brokerage and other charges but still keep 150 rupees in pocket :clapping:

I hope I have managed to explain this. I will post another possible trade scenario today.

Bajaj Auto - Camarilla 21.4.2010

Camarilla Levels

H3 = 2103
L3 = 2048

How I would have played?

Sold at 2103, squared off at 2085 thats good 18 points and with 100 units I make gross profit of 1800. Curving my greed I close position here.

Watch the image. If you are not nimble and wait for L3 you will keep waiting.

Thank You for the information.
If really Camarilla can give Success to Failure Ratio Of even 80:20, then we don't need anything else. Suppose We take 200 Trades in a Year with the help of Camarilla & as per Success to Failure Ratio Of 80:20, We will get 3200 Points from Successful Trades where as We will Loose 400 Points from Failure
Trades, hence Profit of 2800 Points less 30% for Income Tax, app.800 Points, so net we are left with 2000 Points or Rs.1,00,000/- from One lot of Nifty.
Kindly explain in detail how to Calculate Camarilla Points for the next day, How to Enter & Exit the Trades and what all you have to keep in mind while Entering the Trade, while we are in Trade and when we Exit the Trade.
I would be obliged for your information and guidance.
Regards
Karanm

When I said success failure it means the ratio between how many times i got a win trade (x pts) and loss trade (y pts) but its not a ratio between how many points you make and how many points you loss. So your fiscal calculation is wrong.
I made 1100+ points trading nifty in Oct 2009 with Camarilla with real money. so thats 50000 rs leaving aside charges. Next month when I left i made 400 odd points as that was very tight ranged month had few SL triggered and had to do hard scalping. so the rupee calculation you showed is different.
