Metro cities and few A+ cities are ready for acting as the pilot locations for introducing the less cash idea but the B & C category cities have to go long way on this path.

Yesterday I was reading the interview of Mobikwik founder Upasana Taku, who very rightly pointed out that India has still to catch up a lot on the infrastructure front. Electronic transactions will increase with passing time but it is still a long road when we talk in terms of pan India basis.
Less cash...interesting....but some big business is gonna make millions if not billions out of this selling relevant equipment, providing the service, etc. etc. Wonder whats in it for who... In the mean time the common man suffers

Whatever happened to the black money held outside the country which was supposed to have been brought back?

Of course its easier to squeeze the life out the common man, makes one wonder if this is a democracy or a communist nation. The big picture of making everything white is a grand idea but implementation sucks and has no respect for the common man.

Please post your experiences with the UPI. Looks like it's going to be the next big thing and everyone will be using it to some extent. I don't have a smartphone so will welcome any experiences with UPI using smartphone.

I just saw an ad on TV saying that you can use UPI even if your phone does not have internet; and decided to give it a try.

  1. Dialled *99#.
  2. Got a message asking me to input 3 characters to identify the bank name.
  3. Replied with "UBI".
  4. It sent back another SMS giving out a menu of services (1. Balance check, 2. make payment etc..etc..).
  5. Replied with 1 (balance check). Got a reply saying "Phone number is not registered". Surprised, because my phone no. is registered in the bank. Will check with the bank about it.
  6. Tried again using "CBI" (central bank).
  7. Got a message saying "External service is down".

Ok. First time. The application recognizes the bank name, has some issues further on. Will improve in due time, just as with the railway enquiries message.

Please post your experiences.
How do you reply with "UBI" ? It has no option to enter any character but only digit. I have registered mobile no. in SBI, but I dont know the 2digit code of SBI (the another option).

I selected "reply" and changed the input mode to capital alphabets. It recognizes UBI as "Union Bank of India" and CBI as "Central Bank of India".

Today, Union bank says the same thing "Mobile No. not registered". Central bank does give some response today, though not the one I want. It says "Account closed" "D
You have to link up your mobile number with the bank account by registering the mobile number either through ATM or going to the bank and filling a form.

Still....I am facing the same problem.....with SBIN....:confused::confused::confused:
The problem with SBI is they don't have a single app.
1. Use SBI Freedom as mobile banking
2. Use SBI Anywhere for internet banking as mobile app
3. Use SBI Pay for UPI Facilities.

I think you are not yet registered, you may have to go to the bank once.

Visited the bank and explained the problem. They checked and said that my mobile was already in their system. They updated it and said "Check it now". Didn't work. Still got the same message.

Got 2 SMS from the bank. 1 gave me my MPIN, 2 asked me to download GPRS app :(

Don't know what to do.. will write to the customer care.
Updated at the bank, will try at the ATM.

Anyway, that doesn't explain "Account Closed" message :D.

Teething troubles. I really would like to see go on strong.
