Technical Indicators Do they Assist ?

When we refine PETROLEUM we get gasoline, diesel, coal tar....

An indicator is to be devised so that it should be "refining" the data!

But unfortunately what I find most in indicators is mixing more types of CRUDE OIL and feeding it to automobiles!

Rather than that if we are to refine the data and then mix the refined data from various datasets, then we should be able to get a good usable standard formulation!

Should be like mixing HP gasoline+BP gasoline+IO gasoline!!!
But mixing should be such that the odds in one are canceled(or smoothened) by the other!

Please correct my ideas if wrong!!!:)

Asishda,

Could you please throw some light on my query (in the previous page) on the TSF. (I know you've devised an indicator based on the TSF, the code for which has found a place in the MS archives).

As for the RWI (my other query) i know the basic formula and also the fact that the Min/Max periods are used to figure out the best-fit cycle period; but i'm not aware how exactly this is done. So if you have some idea (given your mindboggling knowledge of statistics & statistical methods) of how this is done, please do enlighten.

Regards,
Kalyan.

P.S. Actually i want to rewrite the RWI formula using 30 periods for the ATR (arithmetic average) and use the (variable) cycle period only for the smoothing (EMA). I also want to try out Historical Volatility in place of the ATR. But this would also entail rewriting the code for cycle period fixing, for which i first have to know the method/algorithm for the same.

RNRL might fire 2morrow..........i hv got a news from reliable sources that mutual funds are going to buy 10 crore shares.
Hmm..so they recruited you to tell everyone that they are going to buy tomorrow? That will help them with their bid-ask spreads with everyone buying along with them?

Thanks for the generosity. But Why Us? What have we done to deserve this generosity?

Oh no, dear Saint I'm pretty much a Dumb Fool myself. (Fortunate to be in a 'dumb fool' mkt where the proverbial tide raises all boats) Don't quite gather as much as i grope. Just trying to ensure that if & when i fail, my self cannot accuse me of not having tried hard enough (and also learning about humility from the likes of yourself & Asishda. Traders need to be humble, right? :)).

Regards,
Kalyan.
Not sure about whether they need to be humble.......but markets and Life sometimes have a way of humbling us,breaking our egos down......think after some time we get humble-d.

Natural process,I guess(talking for myself).

ps:Still scratching my head trying to understand, hardly dumb my friend!
