infact in the morning, i didn get this message and i downloaded data for past few days - thus the query!!
(if this is not bug in application & it's security feature in windows 7 and 8 - then how did i manage to download the data in the morning?)
Windows 7 and Windows 8 have windows defender. Windows defender monitors certain folders of system and deny access by app to modify any data in those folders. If you want to remove monitoring of some folder to be excluded, you need to go to control panel and add your folder to exclude list.
I am not giving above solution as of now as many people do not know how to configure windows defender. It's little complex.
Now answer to your question, our app, is having feature of auto update. This means when it runs, it checks for updated version and if it finds new version it will download it and update it self. This mechanism ensures that you always have latest version with all defects fixed. This also ensures no action required by you to update application. This is like way Chrome updates itself.
Now we have installed application in c:\program files\shubha downloader, it's monitored by windows defender. Defender does not allow application to write/edit any files even if application owns them.
Post beta we released 0.3 update. After first run, application updates it self.
On second run it tries to set parameters as per updated version, defender denies permission for it and application gives error on screen.
If you install/move/copy app to any other folder like my documents or d:\ or e:\ drive then this problem does not come as defender does not get in to picture. I do not suggest this as of now, as many people do not know how to and what to move and many people may not have system permissions to move as well. If they move, uninstall is bound to fail as it's linked with current installed directory.
If you run app as Admin, this problem will not come and you do not have to worry about any settings.
This is windows 7,8 issue only. Since this is beta, we are not releasing new installer now. In main release which will be in few weeks we will have fix.
I hope this will help.
