Not sure if BJP can't run without Modi, but am sure that Modi can't even walk without BJP. If there's a choice between Modi and the Lotus, the voter will put his stamp on the lotus.

Exactly my point. Modi doesn't have much base outside Gujarat. Not among the voters. His election campaigns in other states (UP, Uttarakhand, Karnataka etc.) haven't had much impact.

He would've grown much in stature if he had said clearly "PM candidate shall be decided by the party and the coalition after the elections".

But the current wave against Ruling party is strong... So he can capitalise on that wave and morover he has a great oratory skills, which no one can match from Congress side... He will work out something..He has got his thinking cap on!!.. But my vote goes to him!!

The Congress is an expert in getting the numbers. The elections are a year away. If you remember 2009 elections, the inflation came down to negative at one point, petrol was suddenly cheaper for 3-4 months etc.etc. Good monsoon will boost UPA's chances. NDA is a house divided at this time. BJP may try to rope in the Left, but the whole setup is too iffy.

In the last elections, BJP shot itself in the foot over its Prime Minister candidate. It has repeated the same now. I feel that NDA has already lost the 2014 elections. They have not accounted for the strength of anti-Modi sentiment, the ire of the other candidates and parties, and that the UPA and the media now gets a chance to take real shots at Modi, not pot shots.

It needs just one small scandal in Modi's name, and it will be game over.
